Our History

Humble Beginnings

In the mid nineteen eighty’s Mr. Dean Green got the idea that a large tract of land behind his Ford dealership would be a good place for an auto auction. Encouraged by favorable reaction from potential clients, Mr. Green proceeded with his plans.

In May, 1986 the Greensboro Auto Auction’s “Original” Facility opened its doors. With 75 employee’s a 4 lane, single building facility opened with its first sale consisting of 300+ vehicles. Everything including reconditioning, inspection and dealer registration was handled from this one facility.

Bursting at the Seams

Through the nineteen ninety’s GAA grew by leaps and bounds. During this time lots were added and facilities grew all around the Wendover Ave area, including a Paint and Body shop, a Mechanical Shop, and more.

GAA’s account list also began to grow with the addition of accounts such as Chrysler and various fleet accounts.

Bigger & Better

In 2000 GAA opened what is called the “New or Main” Facility. Located on Wendover Ave, across the street from the Original facility, this state-of-the-art 16 lane facility has room for thousands of dealers and can support a sale running more than 5000 vehicles on any given Wednesday.

That same decade, Greensboro Auto Auction also added a facility affectionately called “The Palace”. The Palace is a fully enclosed, climate controlled facility that can accommodate over 350 vehicles. This site is a great location for various types of sales, including motorcycles and sport utilities, boat and leisure vehicles, and hi-line automobiles. This location offers a unique, mobile auction block that moves up and down the rows of vehicles being offered.

Ford Motor Company recognized GAA as a leader in the industry three years in a row by awarding GAA the Golden Gavel Award for exceptional customer care for both our Open and Closed Sales. Chrysler awarded GAA the Chrysler Cup for Top Performing Auction three times during the decade.

2000’s Thru Today

2009 Greensboro Auto Auction experienced a year of growth and expansion with the addition of Nissan and Infiniti Remarketing Services.

Greensboro Auto Auction is one of the leading auctions in the Southeast and the United States.
